K-5 Certified Tutor with Knowledge in Many Subject Areas

Hello Students and Parents! School is one of the hardest things that children have to deal with while they are growing up. Most classes have more than 20 students in them and children are expected to adapt to the teaching style that suits the majority of the class, whether they are in that majority or not. Falling behind or not understanding something is a nightmare. If this happens, it is almost impossible to catch up to the new things that are being taught and it is certainly "not cool"...

ADD/ADHD

Being certified to teach both Elementary Education and students with Disabilities, I have had exposure to children with ADD/ADHD. Children with ADHD/ADD benefit from subject matter that they find interesting with a work difficulty level that is slightly more difficult than can be completed independently. As a tutor, I will ensure that lessons are created based on a child's interests. Strategies for maintaining self-control in the classroom will be taught and encouraged.

Aspergers

I have worked with children and adults with Autism of varying severities, including Asperger's. I am also trained in ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis).

autism

Autism is a developmental disorder that hinders a child's social skills, communication, and language. Children with Autism also tend to have difficulty with motor skills as well as appropriate play. Since children with Autism have difficulty expressing their needs, they frequently resort to behaviors to get what they want. I have worked in a preschool classroom for children with Autism for 5 years, during which time I was trained in both ABA and VBN. Both programs prepare caregivers by allowing them to understand functional behavior and treat it accordingly. In addition, I have volunteered for many organization increasing Autism awareness and worked for a nonprofit organization as a residential counselor for adolescents with Autism. I have experience working to individuals with Autism from age 2 through age 21.

Jack N. from Cape May Court House, NJ

Jennifer was asked to come to our house weekly to ensure our 8 year old granddaughter's reading did not drop off over her summer vacation. Jennifer showed up on time every time fully prepared with a lesson plan, Jennifer's approach to the lesson was such that our granddaughter was attentive and responsive. Jennifer assigned appropriate homework for practice in between lessons. It is totally apparent our granddaughter's reading has improved as a result of Jennifer's teaching(s). We were 110% satisfied with Jennifer as a tutor and would strongly recommend her.
